Birth control gives the body hormones that prevent unwanted
pregnancy. When a woman is getting off birth control, there are
changes taking place and side effects that she needs to be aware
of.
There comes a time in a woman' life when they choose to begin a
birth control plan. This may be in the form of physical contraceptives
or hormone based birth control. The hormonal type of birth control
comes in different forms, such as a pill, a shot, or a patch. The most
popular form of birth control is the birth control pill. When a woman
decides that she is ready to stop taking birth control, there are a
few side effects that she should prepare herself for as her body
begins to produce the hormones without the aid of the birth
control.
A woman may decide to stop taking birth control because she has
decided to have a child or because of health reasons. Some of the side
effects of getting off birth control that a woman should watch out for
include mood swings, weight gain or loss, changes in the menstrual
cycle, and a reduced sexual desire. These types of changes are brought
on because of the missing hormones that the body has to get used
to. Birth control works by releasing different hormones that do
different things to prevent pregnancy. This could be changes to the
lining of the uterus or restricting ovulation. Once these regular
doses of hormones are taken away from the body, the body has to begin
to adjust and get back on its own natural hormone cycle. This change
in hormone levels leads to the side effects. While the body
straightens itself out, a woman is most likely to suffer the ups and
downs of the hormones finding their appropriate levels.
Before beginning or ending any sort of birth control regimen, it is
a good idea for a woman to consult her physician for advice. A doctor
might be able to give some helpful information on easing the changing
hormones. When a woman stops taking birth control, it could take some
time for her body to regulate itself again and those around her should
be aware of this and show her extra patience. It is likely to be a bit
difficult for the woman during the initial loss of hormones and she
should be able to seek support from her loved ones.
